Next.js vs WordPress
Speed, SEO, security, editing and running costs compared for an Indian business website, plus when WordPress is the better choice.
GOSHU Digital offers website speed optimization services in India for businesses whose websites feel slow on a phone. We measure what is actually slowing your pages down, fix it in order of impact, and show you the before-and-after results. We work on WordPress, Shopify, Next.js and custom-built sites, and we target the Core Web Vitals that Google uses to judge page experience: loading, responsiveness and visual stability.
No guesswork, no stacking of speed plugins and no promise of a perfect score. A faster site is the goal; a number in a testing tool is only a way to check it. We are based in Rohtak, Haryana, and because speed work happens entirely online, we take it on for clients across India.
Many of your customers browse on budget Android phones, on a mobile connection that slows sharply indoors, in crowded markets or outside the big cities. A page that appears instantly on a developer's laptop can take long enough on that phone for the visitor to give up and tap back to the search results.
Speed problems hurt most where money changes hands: product pages with large image sliders, checkouts loading a dozen tracking scripts, and enquiry forms that freeze for a moment after every tap. Those are the pages we look at first.
Google judges page experience with three Core Web Vitals, measured from real Chrome users at the 75th percentile and reported separately for mobile and desktop. In plain terms, at least three out of four visits to a page need to reach the good threshold for that page to pass each metric.
| Metric | What it measures | Good | Poor | What usually fixes it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) | How quickly the main image or heading appears | 2.5 seconds or less | Over 4 seconds | Faster server response, a correctly sized hero image loaded first, no render-blocking CSS or heavy sliders |
| Interaction to Next Paint (INP) | How quickly the page responds to taps, clicks and typing | 200 milliseconds or less | Over 500 milliseconds | Less JavaScript on the main thread, fewer third-party scripts, lighter event handlers |
| Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) | How much the layout jumps while the page loads | 0.1 or less | Over 0.25 | Reserved space for images, embeds and banners, and fonts that swap without reflowing text |
INP replaced First Input Delay (FID) as a Core Web Vital in March 2024. If a speed report or agency still talks about FID, its advice is out of date.
PageSpeed Insights shows two kinds of results. The top section, when it appears, is field data from the Chrome User Experience Report: what real visitors experienced over the previous 28 days. The score below it is lab data from Lighthouse, a single simulated test on a throttled mobile profile.
Google's Core Web Vitals assessment uses the field data. The Lighthouse score is useful for diagnosis, but it cannot measure INP at all and uses Total Blocking Time as a stand-in. A site can score well in the lab and still fail Core Web Vitals for real users, or the other way round.
Newer and smaller sites often have no field data because not enough Chrome users have visited yet. In that case we rely on repeatable lab tests and, where it helps, add lightweight real-user measurement so your site starts collecting its own Core Web Vitals numbers.
Baseline
We record field data from Search Console and the Chrome User Experience Report where it exists, plus lab tests on your key templates: home, category or service, product or article, and checkout or contact.
Diagnose
Network waterfalls and performance traces show what loads, in what order, and what blocks the main thread: images, fonts, scripts, apps, plugins and server response time.
Prioritise
You get a written fix list ranked by likely impact and effort, with notes on anything that needs a design or content decision from you.
Fix
We make the agreed changes after taking a backup, on a staging copy wherever your platform allows it.
Verify and report
We re-run the same tests under the same conditions and share before-and-after results, each labelled as lab or field data. Field data then catches up as new visits come in.
Slow WordPress sites usually suffer from too many plugins, a heavy page builder, crowded shared hosting and unoptimised images. We remove or replace plugins that load scripts on every page, set up page and object caching, move to a supported PHP version, serve images in WebP or AVIF and cut unused CSS. If the hosting itself is the bottleneck, we will say so plainly rather than hide it behind another caching plugin.
Shopify runs the hosting and the CDN, so the gains come from the theme and the apps. Every installed app can add scripts to your storefront, and some leave code behind in the theme after they are uninstalled. We audit app scripts, remove leftovers, simplify heavy sliders and video headers, fix image sizes in Liquid templates, defer chat and review widgets, and keep tracking pixels to the ones you actually use. Shopify's own Web Performance dashboard reports Core Web Vitals from real shoppers, and we use it alongside our lab tests.
Next.js sites start fast but slow down when too much code is marked as client-side, images bypass the built-in optimisation, or third-party scripts load too early. We move work back to server components, use next/image and next/font properly, load scripts with the right strategy, review caching and static rendering, and trim the JavaScript bundle. For a deeper rebuild, see our Next.js development service.
Core Web Vitals are one of many signals Google uses. A faster site will not outrank a more relevant one on speed alone, but it does make every visit from search, ads and shared links more likely to become an enquiry. If rankings are the main goal, pair speed work with our SEO services.
Sometimes the honest answer is that a site cannot be made fast without starting again, for example when a heavy page-builder theme loads large scripts on every page. Our audit says so when that is the case, and our website redesign service covers rebuilding with the redirects and checks that protect the rankings you already have. Once a site is fast, a website maintenance plan helps stop new plugins, apps and scripts from slowing it down again.
