Website Development Cost in India: Price Ranges by Website Type

By GOSHU Digital · Last updated:

In short

Published Indian market guides put a basic business website at roughly ₹5,000–₹50,000, an agency-built online store at ₹1,50,000 or more, and a custom web application at about ₹2,00,000 and upwards. Scope decides the price far more than the city you hire in, and domain, hosting and upkeep add a yearly cost on top of the build.

Ask a few web designers in India what a website costs and the answers can be miles apart. Even for a basic site, published ranges run from ₹5,000 to ₹50,000. That gap is not always overcharging or undercutting. The word “website” covers everything from a three-page brochure for a clinic to an online store with UPI payments, cash on delivery rules and GST invoices, and providers are often quoting for quite different jobs.

This guide explains website development cost in India by type of website, using published market ranges, and shows what actually moves a quote up or down. It also covers the costs people forget (domain, hosting, plugins, payment gateway fees and GST), how freelancers, agencies and DIY website builders compare, and what to put in a brief so the quotes you receive can be compared line by line. Website design cost in India follows the same logic, because design is usually priced as part of the build rather than as a separate item.

A note on the numbers: every price range below comes from a named public source, listed at the end of this guide. They are market ranges, not GOSHU Digital's prices. Several of the sources sell websites or hosting themselves, so use them as a yardstick, not a rate card.

How much does a website cost in India?

The short answer: a simple site of up to five pages is published at about ₹5,000–₹50,000, a larger business site with a content management system (CMS) at roughly ₹50,000–₹2,00,000, an online store anywhere from ₹50,000 to ₹4,00,000 or more, and a custom web application from about ₹2,00,000 to ₹15,00,000 or more. The table shows how two recent Indian guides break this down.

The two sources do not agree exactly, and that is useful in itself. Their ranges overlap, but where one starts an ecommerce store at ₹50,000 the other starts an agency-built store at ₹1,50,000. The difference is mostly about who builds it and how much is custom.

Why the ranges are so wide: the same label hides very different work. A “basic site” can mean a template with your logo dropped in, or a custom design with written copy, original photos and an enquiry form that reaches you on WhatsApp. Compare quotes on scope, never on the label.

What drives website development cost in India

A handful of factors account for most of the difference between two quotes for the “same” website. If one quote is far higher or lower than another, one of these is usually the reason.

Unique page layouts, not page count

Designers price by the number of distinct layouts (templates) they have to design and build, not by raw page count. A 30-page site where 25 service pages share one layout can cost less than a 10-page site where every page looks different. When you write your page list, mark which pages can share a design.

Template or custom design

A ready-made theme with your colours and logo is quick and cheap. A custom design starts from your brand, your customers and your content, and normally includes layouts for mobile and desktop plus rounds of revisions. Hostinger's guide adds ₹5,000–₹15,000 for customising a template and ₹50,000 or more for a fully custom interface. If you want to see what a custom design project covers, our website design services page sets out the scope.

Content: words, photos and languages

Someone has to write the copy, take or source the photos and, if many of your customers prefer Hindi, translate and review a second version of each page. Content is the item cheap quotes most often leave out, and a common reason launches slip. Hostinger lists ₹5,000–₹30,000 for content and branding work. A bilingual English and Hindi site also means two versions of every page to keep up to date.

Features and integrations

Every feature beyond pages and a contact form is extra work: appointment booking, a product catalogue, member logins, a connection to your CRM or Google Sheets, a WhatsApp chat button, live chat or an AI chatbot. Hostinger puts custom features and integrations at ₹5,000–₹50,000 each. Ask for each one to be priced as its own line so you can decide what to launch with and what can wait.

Platform: site builder, WordPress, Shopify or custom code

The platform sets both the build price and the running cost. A website builder is the cheapest way to start, but you rent it for as long as the site exists. WordPress is flexible but needs regular plugin and security updates. Shopify charges a monthly subscription but runs the hosting and checkout for you. A custom-coded site, for example one built with Next.js, can cost more to build but has fewer plugins and moving parts to keep patched.

Ecommerce details

For an online store, the cost is rarely in the shop page itself. It is in everything around it: catalogue size and variants (sizes, colours, packs), the payment gateway, cash on delivery rules, courier and shipping integrations, GST-compliant invoices, and order updates by WhatsApp or SMS. Our Shopify store setup cost guide breaks these down for Shopify specifically.

Speed on real phones

Plan for visitors on mid-range Android phones and mobile data, because Google uses the mobile version of a site's content for indexing and ranking (Google Search Central). Compressing images, cutting heavy sliders and scripts, and testing on an actual phone over a mobile connection all take time, and a quote that includes them will cost more than one that does not.

What happens after launch

A quote that includes training, a support window, backups and a handover of every login costs more than one that ends on launch day, and the difference is usually worth paying. The running costs are covered in the section on yearly costs below.

India-specific items that change the quote

Generic cost guides, many written for the US or UK, skip the features Indian customers expect. Make sure each of these is either in the quote or clearly excluded:

  • Payment gateway. Setting up Razorpay or another gateway is a build task. The fees are a running cost: Razorpay's standard plan lists a 2% platform fee on domestic card, UPI and netbanking payments, with 18% GST charged on that fee and no setup or annual fee.
  • Cash on delivery. COD needs rules (order value limits, serviceable pin codes, confirmation calls or OTPs) and a courier that collects cash. The setup belongs in the build quote; the courier's COD charges are ongoing.
  • GST invoices. If your business is GST-registered, your store should generate invoices with your GSTIN, HSN or SAC codes and the correct tax split. Ask whether this is included or left to a separate app.
  • WhatsApp. A click-to-chat button is simple. Automated order or appointment updates through the WhatsApp Business Platform involve a provider and usage charges, so they should be priced separately.
  • Hindi or bilingual content. Budget for translation, review by a fluent speaker and the extra pages to maintain.
  • GST on the build itself. GST-registered freelancers and agencies add GST to their invoice, and IT design and development services are listed at 18% (ClearTax). Always ask whether a quote is inclusive or exclusive of GST.

Yearly running costs after launch

A website is not a one-time purchase. Even the simplest site has a domain to renew and hosting to pay for, and most need some upkeep. Add these recurring costs to any quote before you compare:

Published running costs for a website in India
ItemPublished figureWhat to check
Domain name₹500–₹1,500 a yearRegistered in your business's name; ask for the renewal price, not the first-year offer
Hosting₹2,000–₹8,000 a yearShared, managed WordPress or cloud, and who holds the account login
SSL certificateFree from Let's Encrypt, or ₹800–₹15,000 a year for a paid certificateA free certificate encrypts traffic just as well; renewal should be automatic
Premium theme and pluginsTheme ₹3,000–₹7,000 once; plugins ₹1,000–₹8,000 each a yearLicences in your name, so updates continue if you change developer
Shopify subscriptionBasic plan ₹1,994 a month, or ₹1,499 a month billed yearlyPaid apps and themes are extra
Payment gateway2% platform fee per domestic payment, plus GST on the fee (Razorpay standard plan)Compare gateways on fees and settlement terms
MaintenanceSee our website maintenance cost guideWhat is covered, and how many hours of changes a month

Compare quotes on three-year cost, not launch price. Add the build cost to three years of domain, hosting, subscriptions, plugin licences and maintenance. A cheap build tied to an expensive plan you cannot leave can cost more over three years than a dearer build you fully own.

Freelancer vs agency vs DIY website builder

Who builds the site matters as much as what you build. Each route suits a different kind of business, and each has its own risk. Ranges are for a one-time build unless stated otherwise.

Published ranges and trade-offs by who builds the website
RoutePublished rangeGood fit forWatch out for
DIY website builder₹2,000–₹6,000 a year (Hostinger); ₹5,000–₹30,000 a year (Fuzen)Testing an idea, a one-page presence or a very tight budgetYour own time, limited control over speed and SEO, and moving off the platform usually means rebuilding
Freelancer₹10,000–₹80,000 (Hostinger); ₹10,000–₹50,000 for a brochure site (Fuzen)Small, well-defined sites when your content is ready and you have a trusted recommendationOne person covers design, code, content and support, so check availability after launch
Agency or studio₹50,000–₹2,00,000+ (Hostinger)Ecommerce, integrations, bilingual sites and ongoing supportPaying for layers you do not need; ask who will actually do the work

Whichever route you choose, the same three rules apply: the domain is registered in your business's name, you hold the admin and hosting logins, and the agreement says the design and code are yours once you have paid.

Website design cost in Rohtak and Haryana

If you are searching for website design cost in Rohtak, Hisar, Sonipat or anywhere else in Haryana, be careful with any page that quotes a single “local price”. We could not find an independent survey of website prices for Haryana towns. Marketplace listings do exist: IndiaMART's Rohtak web design listings show sellers advertising anything from a few thousand rupees to tens of thousands, but per page, per pack, per project or per month, so the figures cannot be compared directly. A number presented as the going rate for one city is usually one provider's own price.

What we can say is that the work does not change with the PIN code. A clinic website in Rohtak needs the same design, content, speed and SEO work as one in Gurugram. Smaller-city freelancers and studios may have lower overheads than metro agencies, and that can show up in their quotes, but scope still decides most of the price. Use the national ranges above as your yardstick and compare quotes line by line.

What does differ locally is how the project runs. A nearby team can meet you, photograph your shop, clinic or factory, and write for customers who search in Hindi as well as English. Local SEO, meaning a complete Google Business Profile, consistent business details everywhere and genuinely useful location pages, usually matters more to a business serving its own town than national rankings do.

Hidden costs and red flags in very cheap website offers

A very low headline price is usually recovered somewhere else. Before you accept one, check for these:

  • The domain is registered in the provider's name. If you part ways, you may not be able to take your own web address with you. Make sure your business is the registrant and you have the registrar login.
  • Hosting you cannot access. A site on the provider's reseller account, with no login for you, is hard to move and easy to hold back at renewal time.
  • A low first year and a steep renewal. Bundled domain, hosting and “maintenance” can renew at several times the launch price. Ask for the year-two cost in writing.
  • No admin access or source files. You should receive the CMS admin login, hosting access and, for a custom-coded site, the code repository.
  • Recycled templates and placeholder content. The same theme and filler text used across many sites does nothing for your brand or your search visibility.
  • Unlicensed themes, plugins, fonts or photos. Pirated (“nulled”) plugins can carry malware, and unlicensed images can lead to copyright claims.
  • No plan for updates and backups. Ask who updates the site after launch, how often backups run and where they are stored.
  • Everything is “unlimited”. Unlimited pages, revisions or support with no written definition usually means nothing is actually promised.

How to get an accurate website quote

The clearer your brief, the closer the quotes will be to each other and to the final bill. A one-page brief covering these points is enough, and it lets you compare providers on the same scope.

  1. Start with the goal

Say what the site must do: bring enquiries by WhatsApp or phone, take bookings, sell products or support a sales team. The goal decides which features matter.

  2. List the pages and mark shared layouts

Write the page list (home, about, each service or product category, contact, blog) and note which pages can share one design.

  3. Say what content you already have

Logo, copy, photos, product data and translations. Be plain about what you need the provider to create.

  4. List features and integrations

Payment gateway, cash on delivery, booking, CRM or Google Sheets, WhatsApp, language versions. Each should become a priced line in the quote.

  5. Share two or three reference sites

Explain what you like about each one: the layout, the tone, the speed, or how products are presented.

  6. Give a budget band

A band lets providers propose the scope that fits your budget instead of guessing, and makes it easier to see who is padding a quote.

  7. Ask for an itemised quote with terms

Design, development, content, each feature, GST, payment milestones, revisions, post-launch support, and ownership of the domain, design and code should all be stated separately.

Send the same brief to two or three providers. When everyone is quoting the same job, the differences that remain tell you something real about experience, process and support. Already holding a quote and want a second opinion? Our technology consulting service checks it line by line.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a basic website cost in India?

Published market guides put a simple site of up to five pages at roughly ₹5,000–₹50,000 (Hostinger), or ₹10,000–₹50,000 when built by a freelancer (Fuzen). The spread reflects whether you get a lightly edited template or a custom design with written copy. The domain and hosting are extra, every year.

Is website development a one-time cost?

The build is usually a one-time payment, but running the site is not. Domain renewal, hosting, paid plugins or platform subscriptions, payment gateway fees and maintenance all recur. Budget for at least three years when comparing options.

Why do website quotes in India vary so much?

Because providers are often quoting different jobs. One may be adapting a template with your logo; another may be designing every page, writing your content and setting up payments. Send everyone the same written brief and ask for itemised quotes, and the gap usually narrows.

Is GST charged on website development?

If your designer or agency is GST-registered, GST is added to the invoice, and IT design and development services are listed at 18%. Ask whether each quote is inclusive or exclusive of GST.

If your own business is registered, check with your accountant whether you can claim input tax credit on it.

Who should own the domain, hosting and code?

You should. Register the domain in your business's name, keep the registrar and hosting logins, and make sure the agreement transfers the design and code to you once you have paid. It costs nothing extra and protects you if you ever change provider.

Is a website cheaper in Rohtak or other Haryana towns than in Delhi?

Sometimes, because smaller-city providers can have lower overheads, but there is no published price survey for Haryana towns that proves a fixed difference. The scope of the work decides most of the price, wherever the provider is based.
