AI Chatbot Integration for Websites & WhatsApp in India

Most enquiries to a small business are the same handful of questions: what does it cost, are you open today, do you deliver to my area, is this in stock. They arrive on a phone, often after working hours, and often in a mix of Hindi and English. That is the job of an AI chatbot on your website: answer those questions straight away from information you have approved, collect the details of people who are ready to buy, and pass everything else to a person on WhatsApp or phone.

GOSHU Digital handles AI chatbot integration for websites in India and for the WhatsApp Business Platform: we design, build and connect these assistants, working from Rohtak, Haryana. This page explains what a chatbot can realistically do, how we build one, what keeps costing money after launch, and when a ready-made tool is the better choice.

What an AI chatbot can do for your business

A well-built chatbot is a front desk that never gets tired of repeat questions. It works best on jobs that are frequent, predictable and low-risk:

  • Answer repeat questions about fees, timings, service areas, documents needed, return policy or delivery, using only the facts you have approved.
  • Capture leads by asking for a name, phone number, requirement and city in conversation, then sending them to a Google Sheet, your CRM or your WhatsApp.
  • Book appointments such as consultations, demo classes or test drives, by showing free slots from your calendar and confirming them by message.
  • Give order updates for online stores, by looking up an order number and replying with its status, where your store platform offers an API (Shopify and WooCommerce both do).
  • Share payment links, for example a Razorpay link for a confirmed booking, so the customer can pay by UPI or card without leaving the chat.
  • Qualify and route enquiries, so a bulk or business order goes to the right person while a simple question gets answered on the spot.

What a chatbot should not do: invent a price, promise a delivery date it cannot check, or give medical, legal or financial advice. We set the bot up to say it does not know and hand the conversation over instead.

Website chatbot or WhatsApp chatbot?

Both can run on the same knowledge base, but they suit different customers. Many businesses use both: the website widget answers questions and collects details, and the conversation continues on WhatsApp.

Since May 2026 the free WhatsApp Business app in India includes Meta's own Business AI, which eligible businesses can switch on to answer common questions and capture leads from the business information they add (Meta's announcement, checked October 2026). For simple FAQ automation that may be all you need. A custom build on the WhatsApp Business Platform, through Meta's Cloud API or a provider, is for bots that answer from your own knowledge base, connect to your CRM, calendar or store, follow your own hand-over rules, or share one knowledge base between your website and WhatsApp.

How our AI chatbot integration works

Language models are good at conversation and bad at knowing your business. Most of the work in an AI chatbot is giving it the right information and the right limits.

  1. Map the real conversations

We go through your actual enquiries, such as WhatsApp chats, call notes and contact-form messages, and list what people ask in the words they use, including Hindi and Hinglish phrasing.

  2. Prepare a knowledge base

We turn your price lists, policies, brochures and FAQs into clean, structured content. The bot answers from this material using retrieval (often called RAG), so when something changes you update the content, not the code.

  3. Choose the model and set guardrails

We pick a language model that suits the job and your budget, then write the rules: which topics it may discuss, when it must hand over to a person, and what it must never say.

  4. Connect your tools

Leads go to Google Sheets or your CRM, bookings to your calendar, payments to Razorpay links and order questions to your store. Every conversation has a clear way to reach a person on WhatsApp or phone.

  5. Test with real questions

Before launch we run the bot through a set of real customer questions, including spelling mistakes, voice-typed messages and mixed languages, and fix every wrong or vague answer.

  6. Launch and improve

After launch we go through conversation logs with you, add missing answers and adjust the hand-over rules. Ongoing changes can be covered by website maintenance.

English, Hindi and Hinglish

A lot of customers in North India type Hindi in Roman script, as in “delivery kab tak hogi?”, or switch between Hindi and English in the same sentence. Current language models can understand these messages and reply in English, in Hindi written in Devanagari, or in Hinglish.

How well they do it depends on the model and on your subject, so we treat multilingual replies as something to test rather than a promise. We check answers in each language against real examples before switching that language on, and we can keep the bot to English on topics where a wrong answer would be costly. We work in English and Hindi ourselves, so you can review the Hindi replies with us.

Customer data and India's DPDP Act

A chatbot collects personal data: names, phone numbers and sometimes addresses or order details. India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and its Rules, notified in November 2025, are coming into force in phases, so it makes sense to build the bot the right way from the start. We build in:

  • A short notice in the chat that explains what is collected and why, shown before the bot asks for any details.
  • Questions limited to what the enquiry needs. The bot never asks for Aadhaar, card or bank details.
  • Conversation logs that only your team can open, kept for a period you choose.
  • A list of every outside service that handles the data, such as the model provider and the WhatsApp provider, so your privacy policy can name them.

This is practical guidance, not legal advice. For your own obligations under the DPDP Act, speak to a lawyer.

Custom chatbot or a ready-made tool?

You do not always need a custom build. The simplest option is now inside WhatsApp itself: Meta's Business AI in the free WhatsApp Business app, launched in India in May 2026 and rolling out to eligible businesses, answers customer questions from the information you give it, and you can take over any chat yourself. If you mainly want common questions answered on WhatsApp, try it before paying anyone, us included. Eligibility and features are set by Meta and may change (checked October 2026).

Tools such as Interakt, AiSensy, WATI, Zoho SalesIQ and Tidio sit in between. They offer a shared inbox, broadcast messages and simple menu-based bots for a monthly subscription. If you mainly need broadcasts and button menus, one of these may be enough, and we will tell you so.

A custom integration makes sense when the bot has to answer from a large or frequently changing set of documents (retrieval, often called RAG), look up data in your CRM, calendar or store, follow specific hand-over rules, or serve your website and WhatsApp from one knowledge base. It can sit inside a fast site built with Next.js without slowing it down, and it lets you change model providers later without starting again.

Whichever route you take, ask the vendor these questions before you sign:

  • Who owns the conversation logs and the knowledge base, and can we export them if we leave?
  • Are Meta's WhatsApp message charges included in the price or billed separately?
  • Which language model is used, and what happens when it gives a wrong answer?
  • Can our own staff edit answers without paying for a developer?

What decides the cost of an AI chatbot

There are two parts to the cost: one-time build work and monthly running costs. The build depends on:

  • How much it needs to know: one FAQ page is very different from hundreds of product pages or PDF manuals.
  • Integrations: each connection to a CRM, calendar, store or payment system adds build and testing work.
  • Channels: website only, WhatsApp only, or both.
  • Languages: every language you switch on needs its own testing.

Running costs are paid as you use them: language-model usage, Meta's WhatsApp message charges, any provider subscription and hosting. We list build work and running costs separately in the quote, so you know what you will pay each month after launch.

Adding a chatbot to a new website or online store

If you are planning a new site, it is simpler to design the chat experience in from the start. See website design for business websites and ecommerce website development for online stores with order-status and payment-link features.

Frequently asked questions

Can you add an AI chatbot to my existing website?

Usually, yes. A chat widget can be added to most websites, including WordPress, Shopify, Wix and custom-coded sites, with a small script or component. We load it so it does not delay the rest of the page.

If your site is already slow, it is worth fixing that first, because a chat script adds weight. Our website speed optimization service covers that.

Will the chatbot ever give wrong answers?

It can. Language models sometimes give confident answers that are wrong, which is why we limit the bot to your approved content, tell it to hand over when it is unsure, and test it with real questions before launch.

After launch, reviewing conversation logs catches the gaps. For anything where a wrong answer could cause real harm, such as medical or legal questions, the bot should pass the customer to a person.

Can the chatbot reply in Hindi or Hinglish?

Current language models can understand and reply in Hindi, in Devanagari or Roman script, as well as in English. Quality varies with the model and the topic, so we test replies in each language with real examples before switching it on, and we can limit sensitive topics to English if needed.

Do I need the WhatsApp Business API for a WhatsApp chatbot?

Not always. Since May 2026, eligible businesses in India can switch on Meta's Business AI inside the free WhatsApp Business app, and it answers common questions from the business information you add. For a simple FAQ assistant, try that first.

A custom chatbot that answers from your own knowledge base, connects to your CRM, calendar or store, or follows your own hand-over rules needs the WhatsApp Business Platform, used through Meta's Cloud API or a provider. On the Platform, Meta does not charge for replies inside the 24-hour customer service window that opens when a customer messages you. Template messages, such as reminders or offers, are charged per message at rates set by Meta.

Who owns the chatbot, the content and the conversation data?

It should be you. We recommend opening the language-model and WhatsApp accounts in your business's name, so billing and data stay with you. Whoever builds your chatbot, us included, ask for ownership of the code, knowledge base and conversation logs to be put in writing before work starts.

What does an AI chatbot cost to build and run?

It depends on how much the bot needs to know, which tools it connects to, which channels it runs on and how many languages it handles. On top of the one-time build there are monthly running costs for language-model usage, WhatsApp messages and hosting.

Message us on WhatsApp with what you want the bot to do and we will send an itemised quote that shows build work and running costs separately.

Is an AI chatbot worth it for a small business?

Not always. If you get a few enquiries a day and can answer them yourself, a WhatsApp click-to-chat button, saved quick replies or Meta's Business AI in the free WhatsApp Business app may be enough.

A chatbot is worth it when the same questions take up hours of staff time, when many enquiries arrive outside working hours, or when you want every lead recorded in one place. We are happy to tell you which situation you are in before you spend anything.
